SPORT enthusiasts can now watch BT Sport including Premier League, Champions League and boxing without a contract as BT has launched a flexible pass.

Until now, getting access to BT Sport generally meant you'd have to be either a BT TV or broadband customer.

Available from today for £25 per month, BT Sports' new pass lets anyone watch their favourite sport on a month-by-month basis.

It gives you access to the full pack of BT Sport channels, including big events such as Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, motorsport and boxing.

It's available via the BT Sport app on Android and iPhone devices, on BT Sports' website, PlayStation 4, Xbox, Apple TV as well as Chromecast.

The new deal means you can dip in and out of BT Sport without having to pay an annual contract, and there are no fees for cancelling.

It could come in handy as the festive season is a busy period for football, Nicholas Baker, TV expert of comparison website uSwitch, told The Sun.

He said: "The added flexibility of being able to sign up for one month at a time means fans will no longer have to tie themselves in for a 12-month contract – particularly useful considering the football season only runs for nine months."

How to find the best TV bundle

BELOW are some tips of what to keep in mind when looking for broadband and TV bundles.

Although the BT deal may be attractive for those watching sport occassionaly over one period, you should consider what you need and what you'll end up using, said Anders Nilsson of Go Compare.

For those who watch sport regularly throughout the year, you may be able to find a better deal by shopping around and getting a bundled package.

Before taking out any bundle or TV package, here are some things worth considering:

  • What services do you want, and what services do you need?
  • The broadband download speed and cap. Are they sufficient for your requirements?
  • Would it cost more to pay for each service separately? Look at the true cost over the first year as this will take into account any introductory rates or discounts as well as any charges
  • Is line rental included in the price? If not, how much will it cost you?
  • What calling package is on offer and does it suit your needs? For example, if it offers free daytime calls but you're only home in the evenings, you won't benefit
  • What are the charges for exceeding your calling allowance or download cap?”

But if you have an existing broadband or mobile deal with BT or sister brands EE and Plusnet, then you may be able to get a cheaper subscription to the BT Sports app, which starts from £10 a month, he added.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Premier League games are now being shown by three different providers – Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime.

While BT Sport typically only gets one Champions League game per game round.

Yet if you time it right and BT Sport screens both league and domestic games in a single month, you could get good value for your money, Mark Pocock of Broadbandchoices.co.uk told The Sun.

He said: "Sky Sports Pass from Now TV is usually priced at a monthly sum of £33.99.

"So in this instance, whilst BT’s deal is almost nine pounds cheaper at £25 a month, those tempted by a potential switch should also know that Now TV is currently offering a cut-price offer on its Sports passes, and will charge just £20 per month to all customers for two months."

On the other hand, BT has currently also cut the price of a 12-month subscription to BT Sport for Sky customers from £29.99 per month, down to £25 – although that's excluding a £20 upfront fee.

Mr Pocock added: "So right now at least, it’s the same monthly premium as a one-month pass, and arguably the cheapest way for Sky and Now TV customers to access BT Sport.

"As for Virgin Media, you can get deals with BT Sport-only.

"However, they are bundled with movies too, so it’s hard to separate how much you’re paying for each component."

Freeview users can watch sport for free on BT Sport Showcase, but the telecoms giant hasn't yet confirm which events will feature on the channel this year.

If you require access to most of the major sporting events, you'll need to subscribe to BT Sport separately.

A few months ago, Plusnet hiked the price of BT Sport by 100 per cent taking the cost to £120 a year.

In July, BT also increase the price of their TV and Sport packages by up to £48 a year.
