Messages of congratulations have been pouring in for Harry and Meghan following the birth of their son this morning.

Prime Minister Theresa May was among those to lead the well wishes after the announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had become parents to a healthy baby boy weighing 7lbs 3oz at 5.26am.

Mrs May tweeted: "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their baby boy.

"Wishing you all the best at this happy time."

While Charles Spencer, Harry's uncle, said: "Really very lovely news today – many, many, congratulations! (Good to have another Taurean in the family….)"

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, tweeted: "Congratulations, Meghan and Harry! Barack and I are so thrilled for both of
you and can't wait to meet him. #RoyalBaby".

In an Instagram post, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York also shared his joy.

He wrote: "Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the safe delivery of your baby boy!?"

And the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who married the couple in May last year, said: "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their baby boy.

"May God bless the new family with love, health and happiness."

Meanwhile, Home Secretary Sajid Javid made a joke in his tweet of congratulations to the royal couple.

He said: "Congratulations to the Duke & Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their boy. Absolutely wonderful news! royalbaby."

Jokingly referring to an outdated tradition which saw the Home Secretary attend a royal birth, he added: "(As Home Secretary, contrary to speculation, I didn't attend the birth!)"

Former Prime Minister David Cameron joined in with the messages of congratulations too.

He said: "Heartfelt congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their baby boy. Such wonderful and happy news! Sending love and very best wishes."

And Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn hoped the couple and newborn were "all doing well".

He said: "Congratulations to Meghan and Harry on the birth of their baby. I hope they're all doing well."

Meanwhile Daniel Martin, Meghan's makeup artist, joked he was a 'gay uncle' to the new royal baby .

He commented "Proud #guncle" on the baby announcement posted on the couple's Instagram page.

While Boris Johnson tweeted: "Wonderful news! Huge congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!"

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: "Many congratulations to TRHs the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of a wonderful baby boy!

"The birth of the first child is a wonderful moment for any couple – I wish them the very best in bringing him up to represent the best of our great country."

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan also sent a heartfelt message and wished the couple "joy and happiness".

He said: "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their baby boy. Wishing them joy and happiness at this wonderful time."

While Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson commented on Harry's beaming smile as he told the media of his new son.

She said: "He can barely keep the grin off his face! Lovely stuff. Congratulations to the whole family on their new arrival."

Meghan's father Thomas also broke his silence of the birth of his new grandson.

The 74-year-old said in a statement: “I'm delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well.

“I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honour.

“God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and  Prince Harry , and God save the Queen.”
