Christmas is a time of excess, from overindulging on food to covering your home in sparkles and glittering lights.

However, there is gin on the market that really embodies the word excess, and we are not sure if we should be excited, or a little nervous, by its creation.

A company has just launched the world’s strongest gin and it is 95 per cent alcohol by volume… wowzas!

The Anno Extreme 95 gin has made its way onto the market and is created by a pair of scientists who decided to give up their day jobs in pursuit of making spirits. Fair play!

The company, which is based in Kent, revealed: "Developed by scientists with a taste for adventure and pushing the limits of possibility, Anno Extreme 95 Gin was produced with one goal in mind – to create 'the spirit of alchemy'.

"A gin that packs more punch and flavour, drop for drop, than any other spirit in the world.

"We use an extended distillation with a mix of steeped and vapour infused botanicals to extract huge flavour, packed into a 20cl bottle.

"Just a 5ml measure gives you a full flavoured G&T with 75 percent less alcohol.

"Alternatively, a 25ml serve gives you a huge botanical hit with a higher strength."

But the very strong stuff still manages to harbour a pleasant taste owing to the fact that it is flavoured with liquorice, coriander, fennel and nutmeg.

The taste is described as: “Robust juniper and smooth spices soften into a fresh bite of citrus with sweet herbal notes” whereas it is supposed to smell: “Distinctively earthy, with powerful juniper and subtle citrus aromas”.

The finish is “Long, dry and complex with hints of warm liquorice” – sounds delicious to us!

And if you want a less strong gin, but a very beautiful-looking one instead, M&S are selling bottles of gin, which look just like snow globes.

The famed supermarket have put the festive offering on shelves, and they were immediately spotted by a savvy shopper who posted about them on Facebook.

The happy customer shared a proof of their purchase to the social media site, writing: "M&S rhubarb gin light up snow globe £18.00 had another flavour also I’ve forgotten."

Others were quick to comment on the beauty of the bottles, which also have outlines of snowy scenes around their base, admitting they would be perfect gift ideas.

One wrote: "I don't even care what it tastes like I just want it because of the way it looks xx." [sic]

On the Marks and Spencer website the Christmassy offering is described as “this season’s must-sip gin”.

Last year, the sparkly treat which houses 23 carat gold, sold out immediately and had to be restocked each month as shoppers rushed to get their hands on it.

The website references its previous popularity adding: "Last year’s favourite tipple, our extra-special sparkly gin liqueur, is back – and even better!"
