Royal jewellery, or jewellery associated with famous women, is often valued much higher than its true value. People like to own gems with histories, and Meghan’s ring would be no different.

The Duchess was given the ring by Prince Harry, as the second-born prince went on one knee in Nottingham Cottage as he and Meghan were cooking a roast chicken.

They made their engagement public knowledge in November 2017 and would go on to marry in May of the next year.

Charlotte White, head of design at Europe’s largest online jeweller 77 Diamonds, discussed the ring exclusively with Express.co.uk.

She said: “The centre stone is surrounded by two round diamonds, estimated at just under a carat each.

“Allegedly, these stones are from Diana’s tennis bracelet.

“The centre stone is a stunning 3ct diamond famously sourced from Botswana, one of the first places Harry and Meghan went as a couple.”

The ring has had a number of tweaks made to it by its recipient, the now Duchess.

It was originally presented to her by Harry on a simple gold band.

However, the former-actress went on to add far more bling to her ring with a pave band encrusted with diamonds.

Charlotte said: “The original engagement ring had an unadorned yellow gold band and featured two larger side stones.

“Following Meghan’s pregnancy announcement, Harry enlisted celebrity jeweller Lorraine Schwartz to resize and reset the centre stone on a thin diamond band, giving a more contemporary look to the design.”

The item is generally valued at being upwards of £300,000 given its association with the Royal Family.

Charlotte estimates its value at around £128,000.

She said: “It is reported Harry selected an internally flawless diamond, however the same design and carat weight could be purchased for around £28,000 if selecting slightly lower quality diamonds.”

The pair’s wedding took place on June 19, 1999.

The engagement ring was made by the former royal Crown Jeweller, Asprey and Garrard, which is today known as Garrard & Co.

Charlotte Leigh, from Lottie Leigh Fine Jeweller, said: “Her engagement ring is a very classic and timeless piece.

“It appears to consist of a two-carat oval diamond which is complemented by two smaller trillion diamonds of around 0.50 carats each in weight, all set into a platinum band.”

It is cheaper in comparison to most royal rings, but still worth a large amount.
