PRINCE Edward has been praised for being a mediator and diffusing any alleged tension between the Sussexes and Cambridges at yesterday’s Commonwealth Service.

The Earl of Wessex, who turns 56 today, was sat next to Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 35, as he chatted away with the couple during the Westminster Abbey event.

The Queen’s youngest son, who was joined by wife Sophie Wessex, 55, helped bridge the gap between Kate, 38, and William, 37, who were sat on the row in front.

The celebration was the last royal engagement for the Sussexes before they start their new life in Canada.

There have been rumours of a rift between the two royal couples – which the palace has denied – with tensions allegedly rising with the announcement of Harry's departure from the Royal Family.

Thankfully Edward, who is dad to Lady Louise Windsor, 16, and James, Viscount Severn, 12, was on hand to provide some light-hearted relief.

Prince Edward was praised by royal fans for “giggling” with Meghan to put her at ease.

One journalist tweeted: “Prince Edward, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle giggling away together is the content I wanted to see. Good vibes all round!”

Another added: “Honestly Harry and Meghan and the earl look the most ordinary people there just having there own little conversation.”

The three royal couples made their own way to their seats, and were not part of the planned formal procession with the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

A source said the sudden change was made on Sunday – despite the Order of Service already having been signed off and printed.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were sat on the front row, in keeping with the order of royal succession.

William and Kate were reportedly "incandescent with rage" when they found out the Sussexes plans to leave after the news had been shared with the public.

From March 31, Prince Harry and Meghan will no longer use their HRH titles, and will aim to be financially independent as they split their time between the UK and North America.

Despite any tensions, Meghan was seen giving a little wave to her sister-in-law Kate as they met publicly for the first time since the 'Megxit' bombshell.

The Duchess of Sussex, who looked striking in a vibrant green Emilia Wickstead gown, mouthed "hello" to Kate as she found her seat at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Day Service.

Harry also said "hello" and smiled at his brother before sitting next to his wife.

This time last year Meghan and Kate greeted each other with a kiss on each cheek, but yesterday afternoon was a slightly more reserved display.

Meghan came face to face with the Queen for the first time on Sunday as she headed to church in Windsor with her husband Harry and the monarch.

In other royal news, we told you how Meghan's £400 necklace included a sweet message from Prince Harry.

And "adoring" Meghan Markle and Prince Harry showed their "honeymoon" affection during their first post- Megxit event, a body language expert has claimed.
