AN NHS nurse has shared how she had a panic attack and broke down in tears after working with coronavirus patients as she is “so scared.”

Brave Frankie Creedy, from Somerset, moved away from her family to protect them during lockdown, while she worked as a Paediatric nurse at Musgrove Park Hospital.

She wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post how she does not have time for people who moan about not seeing friends during the lockdown.

Frankie said: “Come hang out with me for five minutes… I promise you'll be so scared, you'll forget you were ever bored.”

The UK death toll has surpassed 6,000, after a record 854 fatalities in a day, and there have been more than 260 confirmed cases in Somerset, with 12 deaths so far.

She added: “Did you wake up and cry because you have to stay home another day? I woke up and cried because it was my turn to float to the positive floor.”

Frankie continued that anyone would be “so scared” in her position, and said people who are missing friends should think about her patients who are “isolated and alone in a hospital bed”.

She also spoke of how tough the shift is, and said she can’t have a drink of water as she can’t remove her mask without risking infecting herself with the virus.

She continued: “Imagine wearing masks so tight to your face that it hurts after hour one, but you still have twelve more to work.”

Come hang out with me for five minutes… I promise you'll be so scared, you'll forget you were ever bored.

And no matter how hard it is for Frankie, she said her patients are even more frightened than she is.

She said: “Imagine crying your eyes out and having a panic attack at work because everything and everyone is so uncertain.

“Imagine moving out from your home, to protect your loved ones so you can keep going to work only to take care of complete strangers.

“Stay the F home.”

Dr Rinesh Parmar, of the Doctors’ Association, said there are still major issues surrounding the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE).

He told the Sophy Ridge On Sunday show that NHS staff are having to reuse eye masks and added that some nurses doing high-risk procedures are “having to hold their breath”.

Dr Parmar added that a survey conducted by his organisation has found that almost half of doctors say they have no eye protection at all.

He said he had also heard from doctors who said they have been forced to reuse masks when they should be single use only.

He added: “Nurses are doing some of these high risk procedures because they’re unsure whether the masks they’ve been provided with is going to offer them adequate protection.”

He said: “Sadly doctors have been forced to take matters into their own hands.”
