A MUM has said she isn't bothered if people criticise her for dressing her young children as coronavirus for Halloween – because it's the scariest thing she can think of.

Mira Sumpayco, from the Philippines, dressed her pair Madison, eight , and Daryll, eight, as the killer virus and a hand sanitiser for the spooky festival.

Posting the snaps on her public Instagram page, she wrote: "The greatest battle of 2020. Hand Sanitizer vs CoronaVirus".

In another she said: "Nothing is more terrifying this year, than this," captioning the picture "Madi coronavirus."

And they were praised by many of her followers who said her children looked cute.

One person wrote: "Haha, love it."

Another added: "Scariest costume of the year."

She gave Fabulous permission to run the pictures. When we asked how she would feel if she faced criticism for the costumes, she said: "We don't mind, we just think that this is very relevant for this year."

Her costume choice came as Britain officially passed one million cases of the virus.

But she wasn't the only one with the unusual costume choice.

On Twitter a woman went as a 'sexy track and trace app'.

Summer Ray's costume prompted laughs among her followers.

Other people on Twitter showed off pictures of their children in coronavirus costumes – some with attached boxes from coronavirus beer bottles.

But some people weren't happy about outfits mocking the killer virus when a million cases have been recorded in the UK and lockdown has just been announced.

One person wrote: "If you had the audacity to go out for Halloween with a coronavirus themed costume that's just embarrassing at this point delete yourself."

Nothing is more terrifying this year, than this.

Another added: This pandemic isn’t a f***** joke, and your kids coronavirus costume isn’t funny. Try again when you have some f***** respect."

The pictures were released as it was revealed Brits could face Christmas under lockdown as Michael Gove today admitted the new four-week restrictions may be extended next month.

The Cabinet Minister warned the R rate needs to fall below 1 before measures are lifted – and even then they would only be slightly eased.

His admission on the Sophy Ridge on Sunday show will raise fears of a ruined Christmas for millions of British families.

An extension of the lockdown would come as a blow for Brits making festive plans and banking on the restrictions being removed in a month.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster said: "We are going to review it on December 2 but we are driven by the data.

"On the basis of what we have been told it should drive the R rate below 1.

"It’s our hope that we have significantly reduced the reinfection (R) rate."
