Meghan Markle wore a navy blue bespoke Givenchy look to the Trooping the colour this weekend. Kate Middleton too wore a look made especially for her, this time by Alexander McQueen. They have access to all the designer garments in the world thanks to their enormous wealth. But why do they choose to have bespoke garments made?

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton: Bespoke dress costs ‘tens of thousands’ for one look

Designer Terry Fox, who specialises in bespoke garments, claimed the royals are attempting to show us that they are spending potentially tens of thousands of pounds for one garment.

She told Express.co.uk exclusively: “Kate and Meghan tend to opt for bespoke or couture these day for the more momentous occasions in the year, more now than they used to.

“I don’t think it’s a cost issue, quite the opposite – it’s telling us they are spending into the thousands, quite possibly tens of thousands for a one-off design.”

But flaunting their wealth is not the only reason the royals wear one-off garments.

“The thing is having a couture design specially made for you can take several issues into account, definitely another celebrity not wearing the same design.

“Can you image The Only Way Is Essex cast and Meghan in the same outfit?

“But there is so much more. Of course there is the obvious such as an exacting fit and a beautifully coordinated ensemble with all the best there is of accessories.”

Kate and Meghan must also think about etiquette when it comes to their dressing.

Terry added: “Correct length, necklines and sleeve length, style lines, not too figure-hugging, and not too loose either – this can look really untidy.”

Royals must take into account “the occasion, the time of year, the country they are in? Plus how does it it slot in beautifully to what they will be wearing the rest of the year?

“Colours and designs should not be repeated.

“The Royal calendar is a well worked-out schedule of events and every detail needs to be considered well in advance.”

Meghan Markle wore a new designer bag this weekend from her favourite brand Givenchy.

In her hands Meghan held the Givenchy Mini Pocket Quilted Bag in a turquoise hue.

The bag is £850 full price, but is currently for sale £765.
