BAKE Off star turned plus size influencer Laura Adlington has opened up about the realities of shopping for clothes on the high street.

Laura, who sprang to fame on the series in 2020, revealed she’d visited five popular stores to see what they had to offer – and was left bitterly disappointed by most of them.

In a video recorded for her 40,000 TikTok followers, Laura, aka @lauraadlington, explained: “Here’s what it’s like to shop in store when you’re plus size.”

She then recalled her visits to chains Yours, H&M, Marks & Spencer, New Look and Primark as she searched for on-trend clothing for the summer season.

Laura continued: “First I went to Yours and, to be honest, I was really disappointed with the butterfly tops, the cold shoulder tops and slogan tees.

“However, I did find some cute dresses to try on, this last one in particular was a huge hit with my niece who decided to make a guest appearance,” she added, as she modelled a selection of midi dresses.

Next on her list was M&S, where Laura spotted some “beautiful bits” but revealed that they had hardly any larger sizes hanging up.

Laura said: “I did spot a couple of size 24s, which was great, and I nearly fell over seeing this dress in a size 26-28.”

H&M got a big thumbs down as it failed to stock any clothing above a size 18 on the day Laura popped into store.

It was also a similar scenario in New Look, as Laura explained: “The same goes for New Look.

Laura then summed up her shopping experience by saying it was another “unsuccessful trip,” as she asked her followers: “Why do I bother?”

She followed this up in the caption for the post when she aired her frustrations and said: “I just want to wear the same thing as everyone else.”
