WE all need vitamins and minerals to stay healthy – without them it can lead to disease and illness.

There are plenty in our foods but if we are busy or not eating a balanced diet we can become deficient. Today we have looked at some brilliant ways to get your fix and trialed glycolic face pads that exfoliate skin and brighten your complexion…

Heart

  • Algal Oil, 60 capsules, £7.99 – buy now

IF you want to take heart healthy pills, Paradox Omega-3, 6 & 9 1000mg capsules are a great choice. They've got a high dose of omega 3, 6 and 9 fish oils with vitamins D3 and E.

These not only support heart health but brain, eyes, bone and joints, skin, immune system and general well being. And the best bit is they don't have a fishy taste when you take them – or an after taste hours later!

They're not overly pricey and the company only take their ingredients from designated sustainable fishing grounds.

Hair

  • Viviscal Maximum Strength Supplements, 60 tablets, £51.99 – buy now

Huge clinical trials have been done on this supplement to prove that it works.

Women who lost hair due to stress, poor diet or hormone influences saw thicker hair returning – and staying. I've tried this for three months and seen a marked improvement to my very thin hair – and so has my hairdresser.

Viviscal contains a unique blend of ingredients – a rich marine protein complex and Vitamin C from the Acerola Cherry. Plus millet seed, iron, zinc and biotin – all selected to contribute to the maintenance of healthy hair growth.

They are not cheap – but I will keep taking these!

Energy

  • Vitamin injections, Harley Street's Cosmebeaute, £275 – book now

IV drips and vitamin injections are huge right now because they potent, they go straight into your blood stream – and they're loved by celebrities. But they are also a big fat waste of money if you don't need such a big boost. The best thing to do is find out if you are deficient in the first place.

Harley Street's Cosmebeaute will test you beforehand. I tried it and it showed what vitamins I needed. I was dreading the drip as I have 'dodgy' veins and doctors struggle to even take blood but they managed to get the needle in without too much hassle and I just relaxed on a bed.

I've got a busy life, often feel shattered and run down but this made a huge difference – it really perked me up, I definitely had more energy.

Budget

  • Lacura, Glycolic Pads £2.49, 60 pads – buy now

A skin resurfacing pad to help improve skin’s tone and texture and leave skin radiant and glowing.

Contains glycolic acid for a light exfoliation to remove outermost layer of dead cells from the complexion. Gentle enough for daily use and a huge bargain at only £2.49.

These have a lovely citrusy scent and definitely improved my skin’s texture. I achieved similar results to the mid-range at a fraction of the price. A great budget-buy if you want to try out glycolic acid products without forking out.

Mid

  • Nip + Fab, Glycolic Fix Pads £12.95, 60 pads – buy now

These cleansing pads lightly exfoliate and eliminate dead skin and impurities to restore a smooth, refined complexion.

Each pad is soaked in glycolic acid, soothing witch hazel and hyaluronic acid for added hydration. I used both morning and night on cleansed skin and noticed a difference after a week.

Skin felt much softer which in turn helped my makeup apply better than usual and my skin was brighter and less dull than before.

Luxury

  • Peter Thomas Roth, Unwrinkle Peel Pads £46.00, 60 pads – buy now

Formulated to chemically exfoliate the skin as well as minimise pores and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

Glycolic as well as salycilic and amino acids are combined with botanical extracts and antioxidants to remove dead skin cells and leave face moisturised and calm. Can be used once or twice daily for oily complexions, or one to three times a week for dry skin tones.

Wipe over and leave on for one to three minutes before rinsing. Too harsh for me to use daily but worked wonders for me when used three times a week. Skin looked and felt brand new – expensive but gave me the best results. Didn’t notice a change to wrinkles though.
