The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their second child together, the couple announced on Valentine’s Day.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who currently live in California, shared the news by releasing a gorgeous black and white photo of Harry resting his hand on Meghan’s head as she lays in his lap underneath a tree, cradling her blossoming baby bump.

The royal couple, who are already parents to one year old son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, said their first child is set to become a ‘big brother’.

With the royal baby news, the current line of succession to the British throne has changed.

The first seven places in the line of succession will remain unchanged – but when Harry and Meghan’s new addition arrives, Prince Andrew will move down to ninth place.

We take a look at how the line to the throne will change once Archie’s sibling arrives.

Queen Elizabeth II is the current monarch, having reigned for nearly seven decades.

Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, is first in line to succeed his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, will succeed the throne after his father, Prince Charles.

Seven-year-old Prince George, the firstborn to Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is third in line to the British throne.

Five-year-old Princess Charlotte, the second-born of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is fourth in line to the throne.

Two-year-old Prince Louis, the third born of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is the fifth in line to the throne.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, retains his place as sixth in line of succession despite quitting royal life, and dropping his HRH style.

As the firstborn to Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Master Archie is seventh in line to the throne.

When Harry and Meghan’s new addition arrives, he or she will be eighth in line to the British throne.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, third child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, will move down to ninth place.

As the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice of York is tenth in line after her father.
