If you can’t get enough of The Weeknd‘s Super Bowl halftime show, you’re in luck! Showtime has set a documentary that will is all about making of the halftime show, which was conceptualized and performed under coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic restrictions.

The Weeknd was the performer for Super Bowl 55

At first, it was rumored that he was bringing out a guest for the halftime show. The rumors ranged from folks he has worked with like Ariana Grande, to Beyoncé, to Drake.

However, ahead of the show, he debunked all of the rumors. “I’ve been reading a lot of rumors,” he said Thursday in an interview on The NFL Network. “There wasn’t any room to fit it in the narrative and the story I was telling in the performance. So there’s no special guests, no.” This is different from the previous year’s headliner, Jennifer Lopez, as she brought out Bad Bunny and J Balvin.

Ahead of The Weeknd’s performance, Pepsi is debuted its second national television ad starring the pop star. Titled “The Walk,” the spot was voiced by The Weeknd’s longtime friend and and creative director, La Mar Taylor.

‘The Show’ will go behind-the-scenes of the making of The Weeknd’s halftime show

Showtime has announced The Show, a 90-minute documentary that the network says will “provide a unique, first-ever look into the making of the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show.” The documentary is directed by Nadia Hallgren, who directed the Michelle Obama Netflix documentary, Becoming. it is produced by Pepsi in-house content studio and Boardwalk Pictures. Jesse Collins, who produced halftime show, is executive producing the documentary.

“The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is undoubtedly the world’s biggest stage, producing the most viewed and talked about moment in music every single year,” said Todd Kaplan, who is Pepsi’s VP of Marketing, in a press release. “The pressure to deliver an iconic, memorable and entertaining performance is felt well beyond the artist, as there are a number of people – behind the scenes – who are vital to its success.”

‘The Show’ will showcase what it took to bring the halftime show together

Kaplan says that The Show will showcase everything that it took to make this historic performance come together last Sunday. With our new documentary coming to SHOWTIME, we are taking fans on the emotional and thrilling journey of what it takes to make the biggest show of the year – with the added complexity of doing so amidst a global pandemic.  With Jesse Collins and a number of super-talented creatives at the helm, The Show chronicles all the drama and hard work that goes into successfully pulling off a show of this magnitude.”

“This historic year with Jesse Collins as the first Black EP of the Halftime Show brought an opportunity to tell a new story,” said Nadia. “We get a window into the process of a diverse team of executives and creatives working at the highest level, in front of and behind the camera. It is unclear when the documentary will premiere, but it is expected to be sometime later this year.
