To which Susanna, who has been replacing her alcoholic drinks with fizzy water, admitted: ‘No, I did have a couple of glasses out in Ibiza… you couldn’t go to Ibiza and not just have a small glass of sherry to round off a nice meal.’

Yet Piers wasn’t impressed by his co-host’s choice of alcohol as he teased: ‘What did you have, sherry? How old are you? You don’t drink sherry until you’re 75-years-old!’

Susanna revealed in September 2018 that she was going teetotal for the month, sharing afterwards that she was ditching booze for good after a doctor warned her that she was at the top end of the BMI.

The presenter also spoke about her decision to ditch alcohol in a candid interview with The Sunday Times Magazine in April.

She said: ‘I gave up because a doctor told me to. I was concerned because my skin was flushed, I kept getting flare-ups and blemishes, and they were leaving red scars.

‘I’d tried all manner of creams and washes, but I knew deep down that what was happening to my skin was probably a manifestation of what I was putting into my body.’

Admitting that her favourite past nights were spent at The Groucho Club in Soho drinking white wine, Susanna admitted that she had fallen off the wagon eight times since going teetotal.

She continued: ‘It’s a bit like the end of a relationship when you’re not quite ready to say it’s really over. There are times you fall back into it. Each time, I regretted the alcohol. It either made me grouchy or took me days to recover.’

Susanna also spoke about her decision to ditch alcohol on the Is It Just Me? podcast last year, admitting that she still misses ‘letting her hair down’ with booze.

‘As you get older your memory is affected. I just thought “alcohol is not great for your memory”, she added.

Speaking out: She said: ‘I gave up because a doctor told me to. I was concerned because my skin was flushed, I kept getting flare-ups and blemishes, and they were leaving red scars.’

Despite touching on the benefits of being teetotal, the former BBC host admitted she misses alcohol.

‘I really miss it. When you are in a big social group and the shots come out, I miss letting my hair down.’

Susanna previously spoke about her weight loss in September 2018, she said: ‘It was a combination of factors, but a doctor said I was at the top end of my BMI.

‘He said it might benefit me if I lost a little weight.’

While it’s fantastic that Susanna has embraced a healthier lifestyle, it’s fair to say that she has never appeared to be overweight.

Many experts have criticised the body mass index for being a fairly limited measure of the health of our weight, yet it still remains the most popular.

According to Medical News Today, ‘Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on your weight in relation to your height.

Before and after: Susanna previously spoke about her weight loss in September 2018, she said: ‘It was a combination of factors, but a doctor said I was at the top end of my BMI. He said it might benefit me if I lost a little weight.’

‘It applies to most adult men and women aged 20 and over. For children aged two and over, BMI percentile is the best assessment of body fat.’

You calculate your BMI by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres.

For adults, a BMI under 18.5 is considered dangerously thin, 18.5-25 is the healthy weight range, 25-30 is overweight, and 30 or over is obese.

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
