Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington, 26, has been helping his fellow professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, 32, feel better after her split from her fiancé, footballer Matija Škarabot, according to reports. Nadiya reportedly separated from the father of their five-year-old daughter Mila earlier this month.

Now, an insider has claimed Nadiya and Kai have a “very strong” friendship after working together on the latest series of the hit BBC One dance show.

A source told The Sun on Tuesday: “Nadiya and Kai have incredible chemistry, and a very strong friendship.

“Right from week one they connected, and are always laughing and messing about.

“Nadiya and Matija actually separated months ago and obviously Nadiya confided in Dan at the time.

“Just as she was a great comfort to him when he was upset one week, so he was a rock for her.

“Kai, meanwhile, has also been brilliant – and she confided in him throughout the series.

“He has cheered her up and made her smile again. They’re great mates, and lots of people backstage think they’d make a really cute couple when the time is right.”

The source also added that Nadiya will continue to co-parent with her former fiancé.

They went on: “From Nadiya’s perspective, nothing much has really changed.

“She is still a loving co-parent with Matija, and continues to live her life to the full.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Nadiya and Kai’s representatives for comment.

Late last year, Nadiya addressed her relationship with her celeb dance partner, BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker.

The dancer explained that she had comforted Dan, as he had been upset over the death of his footballer pal Gary Speed.

Speaking in an interview with the publication, Nadiya said: “It was a very difficult day for Dan. It was a full-on week in general, a lot of work, and it had made him emotional.

“He had filmed an interview and was watching that video.

“We became really good friends during these 11 or 12 weeks and it was a tough day for him.”

She concluded: “I was glad I was there for him.”

The chat followed the couple’s exit from the show after being voted out.

At the time, Nadiya was pictured crying in a taxi, which she explained was down to her emotional state over their departure, adding that they were “happy tears”.

The dancer also said she would continue to be friends with Dan “for life”.

She said: “Dan is probably one of the kindest people on this planet.

“He is very caring and always looking after other people. He is selfless and a gentleman.”
