The Danish athlete continues to stay in hospital for further examination after he suddenly collapsed during Denmark’s game against Finland at Euro 2020.

AceShowbiz -Danish soccer star Christian Eriksen continues to improve after collapsing during the third game of the Euro 2020 tournament on Saturday (12Jun21).

The midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s game against Finland, and a medical team rushed on to the pitch to assist the fallen star, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Eriksen as players surrounded him.

The match was suspended and TV coverage ceased as medics fought to save the sportsman’s life before he was taken to a nearby hospital.

The game restarted later on Saturday (12Jun21) and tournament officials released a statement, which read, “Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated.”

On Sunday, a spokesman for the Danish Football federation revealed, “His condition is stable, and he continues to be hospitalised for further examination.”

“The team and staff on the national team has received crisis assistance and will continue to be there for each other.”

“We would like to thank everyone for the heartfelt greetings to Christian Eriksen from fans, players, the Royal families from both Denmark and England, international associations, clubs etc.”

The team’s doctor Morten Boesen has since told reporters at a news conference that Eriksen was “gone” before medics on the pitch managed to resuscitate him.

It is still not clear what caused the cardiac arrest.

Finland eventually won the match 1-0.
