British actress Kathryn Prescott, 30, has been left in critical condition after being hit by a cement truck while crossing a road in New York. The Londoner was hospitalised on Tuesday and has suffered multiple injuries following the horror crash.

Her twin sister Megan Prescott, a bodybuilder, confirmed the news in a heartbreaking Instagram post.

The actress, know for playing Emily Fitch in Skins and Carter Stevens in Finding Carter, is in an ICU at a New York Hospital and is “incredibly lucky to be alive”.

Megan has issued an urgent plea, in view of her 168,000 Instagram followers, as she called for people’s help.

She explained that Kathryn had “narrowly avoided paralysis” after suffering multiple broken bones.

Taking to the picture-sharing site yesterday, Megan confirmed her twin sister suffered a broken pelvis, legs, foot and hand.

She began: “I received the most terrifying phone call I’ve ever received in my life on Tuesday evening.

“My twin sister Kathryn was hit by a cement truck while crossing a road in New York on the 7th September.

“After fighting through complex surgery some of Kathryn’s injuries include broken pelvis in two places, both of her legs, her foot and her left hand. She is incredibly lucky to be alive.”

Megan added: “She narrowly avoided paralysis.”

The former Skins star is expected to make a full recovery but her twin sister urgently needs to fly to New York and support her but is unable to travel due to the travel ban.

“She is alone in New York with no family members. I need help getting to New York to support her recovery. I will have to help her until she can start to walk again,” her sister pleaded.

Megan, who is based in Britain, went on to blast the US government’s policy towards foreign nationals after being told she could not see her sister.

She wrote: “I applied to the US Embassy for exemption from the current restrictions banning any non-US citizens into the US and was denied earlier today and I am devastated.

“I am double vaccinated, I had a PCR test yesterday and can fly at the drop of a hat.

“I have documents from the hospital confirming the extent of Kathryn’s injuries and am willing to do anything to get to her as soon as humanly possible.”

Megan finished: “I know there is so much going on in the world right now but I am heartbroken that I can’t be with my twin sister in this horrible time in her life when she desperately needs me – I don’t want her to go through this alone.”

She also shared a message via her Instagram stories and urged people to not contact Kathryn and allow her to recover undisturbed – instead, they should direct their concerns to the actress’ representatives.

Kathryn and her twin sister Megan got into acting in 2008 when the pair featured in an episode of soap opera Doctors.

The injured star joined the Skins cast a year later when she took on the role of Emily Fitch through series three, four and seven.

Meanwhile, Megan has pursued a career as a bodybuilder.
