SirRod Stewarthas revealed his brother died earlier this week, just two days beforeQueen Elizabeth II.

The 77 year old singer said that he has had a “devastating 48 hours” in the wake of both his family tragedy andthe death of the monarch.

Sir Rod shared his grief in a statement posted to Instagram and Twitter, as he wrote: “It has been a devastating 48 hours. We lost my brother Don on Tuesday at 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96.

“The Queen has been an unwavering presence throughout my life and a great unifier. A shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls.

“What a privilege it was to perform for her. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King.”

Sir Rod performed just a few months ago at the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations, with his performance being watched by many senior members of the royal family, includingPrince William,Kate Middletonand two of their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Fans of the singer were quick to share their condolences, with one writing: “I'm so so sorry to hear about your brother I can only imagine how heartbreaking that is. And she was an amazing Queen. My heart goes to all of England and her family too.”

“So sorry to hear of the loss of your dear brother Don Sir Rod…. The Queen will be sorely missed. In your words a shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls,” added another.

While another commented: “I’m so sorry to you and all the Stewart family for your loss. And I share in the sadness we feel at the death of our Queen. May they both rest in God’s peace.”

Other celebrities have also shared their own messages of condolences to the royal family.

Britain’s Got Talent judgeAmanda Holdenjoined the crowd of thousands outside Buckingham Palace, who hadgathered to pay respect and tributeto the late Queen.

Prior to the announcement of the Queen’s death, but after the announcement that she had been placed under medical supervision, journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan took to Twitter to express concern.

He wrote: “I can’t even imagine Britain without this Queen. Very unsettling day.”
