Rachel Riley, 33, took to Twitter and jokingly declared her “retirement” as she responded to a fan following a recent Countdown episode. The Twitter user noted on Countdown Rachel was finally able to spell out her own name on the letter board after a contestant picked out consonants and vowels which spelled out R, I, L, E, Y. The social media user said to Rachel: “The joy in @RachelRileyRR’s face at having her name spelt out today. Only taken ten years.#Countdown.” In view of her 636,000 followers, Rachel wrote: “Finally! I can retire now.”

Fans rushed to respond to the retweet, with many of her followers pleading with the Channel 4 favourite to not retire.

One person commented: “Please don’t…”, while another person said: “Oh God… don’t retire.”

Another person replied: “Retire? No way never! Your excellent at maths. Countdown won’t be the same! You are at home there and Cats on Countdown won’t be as much fun! STAY.”(sic)

While a fourth person quipped: “You can’t retire until RACHEL is spelled out.”

Rachel has been a regular fixture on the show, after she replaced TV star Carol Vorderman on Countdown.

Meanwhile, Rachel who is in relationship with her Russian beau Pasha Kovalev, 39, has opened up about their romance in a recent interview on the Jonathan Ross Show.

She revealed she has dedicated herself to learning the former Strictly Come Dancing star’s native language.

The small-screen star said: “I am learning Russian, I’m doing it with an online app, it’s really homemade with Clip Art from the nineties to explain stuff.

“It teaches you how kids learn. My spelling is absolutely appalling but you pick it up as you go.

“The first thing I learnt was [the Russian for] ‘Give me a kiss’ and then from the app you learn things like ‘I open the window with a crowbar.’”

The couple confirmed their romance in 2017 after the pair met on the BBC series of Strictly Come Dancing the previous year.

Earlier this year, Pasha confirmed he has quit the show after eight years.

In a lengthy Twitter statement, he said: “After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching four finals and lifting one Glitterball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year – my final season on Strictly.

“I’ve had eight fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professionals and myriad of behind the scenes teams who all work to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.”

Countdown airs weekdays on Channel 4 from 2.10pm.
