Prince William and Kate Middleton surprised drinkers at a country pub on the weekend, as they took their children for lunch in the garden.

Fitting in perfectly in casual attire, the future King and Queen were joined by Princes George and Louis, and Princess Charlotte as they tucked into chips and burgers.

Dressed in a T-shirt and trousers, hair tied back in a ponytail, Kate sat with her sons either side at the casual picnic table.

Across from her, Wills could be seen tucking into a burger and chips, while Charlotte sat at his side and the family dog circled the wooden table they were seated at.

William was even seen comforting one of the children after their food was too hot.

The simple family outing came after William and Kate experienced a busy week of engagements, with Kate travelling to Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to meet Afgan veterans, Lake Windemere to see cadets and then Roehampton to meet tennis professional Emma Raducanu.

Prince William had been in attendance at emergency services day in London and met with youth football teams.

A witness to the family outing said to The Sun said the family were 'down to earth', adding: “It would have been easy to miss them – and just assume they were any other family.

“They were laughing and chatting and clearly enjoying each other's company.”

They went on to detail the moment where William reassured one of his children following their upset at the food’s heat, saying: “There was one particularly touching moment where one of the children got upset because their food was too hot.

“William was so fast to reassure them and sort them out. It was fantastic to see.”

The meal follows Kate’s meeting with tennis champion Emma Raducanu on Friday, where she was “starstruck” by the 18 year old pro.

Royal expert and author Duncan Larcombe told OK! : "It's lovely to see Kate so excited. She's one of the most photographed women in the world and yet you can see this engagement was so exciting for someone who has loved tennis from their childhood.”

"Kate is human and despite the incredible things she does in her career, she's still capable of feeling blown away and starstruck and she genuinely looked that in Emma's presence.” Duncan added.
