Piers Morgan hopped on a plane and waved goodby to the UK at the weekend following his last appearance on Good Morning Britain, as he takes a two-month break from presenting the ITV show. The television star appeared to annoy some of his social media followers after posting several pictures from his luxury summer holiday online.

The 55-year-old is currently on vacation in the South Of France and has shared pictures and updates with his 1.2 million followers.

On Saturday he snapped a selfie as he sat in a plane on the runway at Heathrow Airport ahead of his trip.

He could be seen in a protective face covering as he jetted out of the country for what many fans dubbed a “well-earned” break.

Piers captioned his post: “I’m a washed up, knackered pathetic excuse for a celebrity… get me outta here.

“Bye Britain, it’s been… surreal.”

To mark his safe arrival, the presenter posted a picture of the sun setting over the stunning vista and revealed his destination online.

He tagged his location as Saint-Tropez and captioned the snap: “Provence!”

Other holiday photos have shown Piers sampling regional food at a local market and enjoying a cup of tea in the sunshine.

Another post captured his summer holiday reading material, however some social media users appeared to grow tired of his updates.

It showed a book about cricketer Bob Willis in front of a spectacular view of the lush French landscape.

Piers’ post read: “Perfect summer reading. A fantastic tribute to the late, great Bob Willis, one of my all-time cricketing heroes, edited by his brother David.

“Such a fascinating & entertaining man on and off the cricket pitch. He loved sport, opinions, wine & Bob Dylan – so we had at least three things in common.”

Many fans and followers told the ITV star to enjoy his “well-earned rest”, however some admitted they were “disappointed” that he had travelled abroad so soon after travel restrictions eased.

One user wrote alongside the picture: “Disappointed Piers you went abroad for your holiday. After all the ranting you have done (quite rightly so) regarding travelling why didn’t you stay in the UK? You would also be helping the economy. Very disappointed.”

“Just to add even Dr Hilary [Jones] isn’t flying,” the user added.

Another follower remarked: “Make sure u get the background in as well piers while most of uk struggles.”(sic)

Over on Twitter, one user accused the presenter of having “double standards.”

The comment read: “Piers you’ve let the side down here. Why choose to go abroad when you have been preaching others to not go.

“I know its hard, but if your audience members are peeking cause your slating the government you should be leading a better example on social media. Double standards here.”(sic)

Back in March Piers exclaimed: “What is wrong with people!” on Good Morning Britain before adding: “You’re not having to risk your life in the trenches, you’re being asked to go home and watch telly.”

There are currently no restrictions on travelling to France from the UK.
