The social media frenemies are known to clash with one another on micro-blogging site Twitter, but they now appear to be friends again. Gary Lineker, 60, and Piers Morgan, 56, made the most of the lockdown restrictions coming to an end as they ventured out.

The pair went out alongside Sky News anchor Mark Austin, as the trio enjoyed a spot of lunch at West London’s swanky The River Cafe.

Piers and Gary were recently at loggerheads after the former Good Morning Britain presenter claimed the “woke brigade” had ruined the Oscars 2021 awards ceremony.

Responding to Piers’ tweet claiming that the Oscars’ ratings fell by a staggering 58 per cent, Gary was quick to hit out, responding that nobody had been able to visit the cinema over the past 12 months due to the ongoing lockdown restrictions.

Just moments later, Piers quipped: “Hi Grandpa, are you aware you can watch movies on streaming services?”

Despite their recent clashes, the duo appeared to be happier than ever as they posed for a selfie while enjoying their afternoon out.

Taking to Twitter in view of his 7.9 million followers, Piers shared a snap of the pair joined by Mark, 62, appearing to enjoy a glass of wine.

Beaming towards the camera, the trio opted to dress casually with Piers wearing an unbuttoned shirt and dark sweater.

Captioning his post, Piers penned: “Great lunch with my elderly mates. @markaustintv @GaryLineker.”

Fans were quick to take to the comments section, with one writing: “New episode of last of the summer wine?”

“Young at heart though, hope yous are either discussing, which one of yous is going for next PM [sic],” added a second.

While a third went on to say: “You all look very young to me!”

“It’s like a scene from Last of The Summer Wine,” joked a fourth.

Piers recently found himself being snubbed by bosses at Channel 4 after he hinted that he wants to replace veteran broadcaster Jon Snow.

Following the news that Jon would be stepping down from Channel 4 News after more than three decades, Piers tweeted: “Shall I dust down my tie collection @Channel4News?”

However, editor of Channel 4 News, Ben de Pear responded: “Don’t ring us, we’ll ring you.”

It comes after Piers sensationally departed his role on Good Morning Britain after his controversial comments about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex following her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After claims that the former Suits actress said that she felt suicidal while part of the Royal Family, the former newspaper editor said he didn’t believe her.

“I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” he exclaimed.

Piers’ comments received over 57,000 complaints to the broadcasting watchdog, Ofcom, with Meghan also reportedly lodging a personal complaint to ITV.

The dad-of-four announced his departure from the programme just one day after he stormed off the set.
