Paddy McGuinness has fronted Top Gear alongside Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris since July last year. Now the Phoenix Nights actor’s rider has been detailed, with showrunner Clare Pizey branding it the “cheapest in history”.

The 46-year-old certainly does not ask for anything complicated when it comes to the contractual food and drink supplied to the stars on the road.

The Take Me Out presenter is said to request Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, Pot Noodles and Ambrosia Creamed Rice.

However, the latter sweet treat did cause some problems for the BBC team and changes were later made.

Speaking to this week’s Radio Times, Clare explained: “We’ve made sure it’s in tins – we had them in cartons and at altitude they exploded!”

The programme boss, who began overseeing the show in 2016, said the daredevil stunts aren’t the most stressful part of the job.

“Our risk assessment forms are like books. Funnily enough, I was less worried about the car bungee than any other item because we had structural engineers all over it,” she continued.

During the interview, Clare discussed what goes on in these exotic locations, which includes sharing “team pees” on the roadside.

“We’ve had to get a bit tougher,” she laughed.

Discussing a particular moment in Borneo during two hours of torrential rain, the safest place to relieve oneself was in front of the vehicles.

She recalled: “The safest place to pee is in front of your car because nobody can see you, so you crouch down – but Freddie beeped the horn and made me jump!”

Clare went on to be quizzed about Top Gear’s future as it is understood the presenters are contracted until the end of the year.

Refusing to be drawn on this, she added: “I don’t think it works unless there’s a three.”

The duo were joined by series regular Romesh Ranganathan, 41, and friend of the show Alan Carr, 43, for their European Road Trip 2.

During one scene, the football pundit was the butt of the joke thanks to the comedian and his companions.

The sportsman could be heard saying, “Oh, no,” as he looked down at his phone as they all travelled in a car together.

Seeming intrigued, Romesh asked him what he had discovered, prompting Jamie to say, “You’ve text Gary Neville, haven’t you?”

He then read aloud: “I know you were only here for five minutes, but what’s the best restaurant in Valencia?”
