Mark Wahlberg is making his move for an Oscar. You can tell because he’s packing on weight for a role. Last month, Mark was on Jimmy Kimmel Live and told Jimmy he was boxing, training for a role about Father Stuart Long who trained to be a boxer, went to Los Angeles to be an actor, fell in love, had an accident and became a priest. He affected many people’s lives before dying of IBM, a muscular disorder similar to muscular dystrophy. Throughout the course of his eventful life, he gained weight apparently. So Mark told Jimmy he intended to put on 30 pounds for the role and the other day, posted evidence that he has added 20 pounds, with 20 more to go.

Mark Wahlberg must be chowing down on his Wahlburgers.
The fitness-obsessed actor, 49, revealed he has already gained 20 pounds and is “going up another 20” for his new movie, “Father Stu.”

“From left photo 3 weeks ago to this, now,” he captioned shirtless before-and-after photos on Instagram Monday. “Thanks to @chef_lawrence_d cooking.”

The weight gain hasn’t turned off the “Spenser Confidential” star’s wife, Rhea Durham, who gushed over her husband.

“And it looks just as hot in person baby ❤️,” the model, 42, commented.

Even Mario Lopez thought Wahlberg still looked handsome, writing, “Yo. You wear mad chubby well homie!”

For fans concerned about the rapid weight gain, Wahlberg’s company Performance Inspired Nutrition clarified the “Ted” actor was going about it in a smart way.

“Doing it the healthy ‘weigh’ and keeping strong with hard #workouts!” the company wrote.

Just days before sharing the photos, the “Deepwater Horizon” star filmed a video from his gym showing off his friend Kenny’s weight loss while highlighting his own weight gain.

“Kenny’s down 50 and I’m up about 20 ? Inspired to be better!” he captioned the video. “I’m going up another 20. Yes it’s for a role. ✝️?❤️.”

*Shoulder shrug*. I’m not here to glorify weight gain as a talent. I appreciate Mark is emphasizing he’s doing it in the healthiest way possible but it’s not necessary for him to gain 30 pounds for a role, regardless of how he does it. Training to look like a proper boxer in the ring impresses me more. I’m tired of actors flexing about what they put their bodies through for a role as if they should be commended for it. Basically, Mark’s bragging about being able to afford to pay someone to help him put on an excessive amount of weight, so he can pretend to be an actual relatable person. However, watch this space because in six months, I’m sure we’ll have the follow up, titled: “Mark Wahlberg’s intense workout paid off, he showed off his pre-filming physique on IG.” And in the photo, behind him, will be the cleared off shelf where he intends to put all his awards for doing so.

In sadder news, Mark and his siblings lost their mother, Alma, in April. She’d been struggling with dementia for many years. May she rest in peace.
