James Corden has shared an emotional video message with fans from self-isolation as he marked five years since taking over as host on The Late Late Show.
The presenter, 41, told fans that it was still ‘the strangest, strangest time,’ with the US on high alert due to the coronavirus pandemic, but vowed that he would be back on screens soon after the outbreak shut down production.
James recorded the message to play before CBS aired a repeat of his first ever Late Late Show, which featured an appearance from Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks.

In the brief video, James gave thanks to his followers for supporting him during his five years as Late Late Show host, after he took over from Craig Ferguson.
The star admitted it wasn’t the way he was hoping to mark the occasion, after the show was temporarily halted due to the virus outbreak.
As James thanked his fans for their support during his stint hosting the show, he also offered his best wishes to Tom Hanks, after he and wife Rita Wilson confirmed they’d tested positive for the virus in Australia.

James said: ‘We had so many big plans for tonight, for the show we were going to give you. For obvious reasons we can’t give you that show right now, so I thought what we’d play tonight is our first ever episode of The Late Late Show.
‘When I think back to [our first episode], I’m filled with nerves and excitement and a feeling of when that curtain opened and I walked out for the first time, I didn’t know if I was going to fall flat on my face or if this was all going to be OK.
‘And I never thought that day I would be here today talking to you five years on.’
‘That episode is also very important because it made me think of Tom Hanks, who was our first ever guest on the show, who our thoughts go out to him and Rita in Australia right now and our thoughts go out to all of you whereever you are.’

James then emotionally told his fans: ‘This is the strangest, strangest time, All we’ve ever wanted to do on our show is bring you some light in the dark in the corner of your room every night, and we’re going to do our best at some point to continue trying to do that.
‘Thank you for this last five years for letting me talk to you every night, I never expected it to be quite the journey it’s been.’
James then introduced that evening’s episode of The Late Late Show, which was a repeat of his first ever episode which featured Tom as a guest.
The comedy star took over from Craig on 24th March 2015, and earned a hugely positive response from fans.
Along with hiarious skits, James also created the viral sensation Carpool Karaoke, which has featured a huge range of stars from Mariah Carey to Meghan Trainor.
The Late Late Show with James Corden airs on CBS.
