Homes Under The Hammer property expert Martin Roberts was initially terrified when he learnt of the line-up he’d be performing his Strictly The Real Full Monty striptease with, which included Duncan James, Colin Jackson and James Jordan. He agreed to take part on the condition that he wouldn’t be partnered with “a load of Chippendale super hunks”, only to end up feeling that the other men ITV bosses had picked were intimidating.

They are my Monty buddies, so I feel like I’d be cheating on them if I did it with someone else!

However, he soon overcame his concerns – and now he feels he wouldn’t want to share the stage naked with anyone else.

“I was slightly disappointed that they were all far fitter and far better looking than me,” he confessed in an exclusive interview for Express.co.uk, “but we got over that pretty quickly”.

Now, when asked which celebrities he’d most like to partner up for a subsequent striptease, he has decided to maintain his loyalty to the original line-up.

“They are my Monty buddies,” he chuckled, “so I feel like I’d be cheating on them if I did it with someone else!”

He added: “Everyone has their own insecurities, even if you look like Duncan James or Colin Jackson.

“It’s not about what you look like, it’s about who you feel inside.”

And Martin’s feelings were all about the cause, raising awareness for cancer after one of his closest friends fell prey to the disease and sadly died.

In spite of misgivings about his figure, Martin says that if the cause was right, he’d be happy to strip off again – and this time around, he’d “certainly be less embarrassed”.

“I’m not going to make a regular habit of it and I don’t think it would necessarily go down well at the end of the average fundraiser,” he quipped.

“But if the circumstances were right, I might get my leopard thong out again!”

Though he has admitted to initially having a “meltdown” when faced with the prospect of strutting his stuff with “an Olympian, a boyband Adonis, a Love Island super hunk and a pro dancer”, he noted that his self-confidence had increased since taking the plunge.

He added: “Being able to do a charity event is a privilege of being a celebrity.

“You can bring attention to charities to try to help them, especially now when a lot of charities have struggled as a result of lockdown and Covid.

“They’ve had to tone down their charity events [due to the pandemic], so they need all the help they can get.

“If I can do anything to highlight the cause, [I will].”

Martin also has his own children’s charity, The Martin Roberts Foundation, which “helps with children’s mental well-being and safeguarding”.

The book he has written for kids, Sadsville, will raise funds for important issues affecting young people.

Meanwhile, Martin had wondered if his own two children would struggle with teasing from their peers after he stripped off for Strictly.

“It was a big thing for my children having their dad strip off,” he recalled.

“I think they were a bit worried about what their mates would say but, actually, their mates were really supportive.

“They were texting: ‘We’ve just seen your dad’s bum!’, but I think even kids got the reason.

“I wasn’t doing it because I wanted to strip off – I was doing it to raise awareness of a really important cause, so even kids can get that.”
