Hearing her tell the stories now, we can’t even imagine going through what Demi Moore endured as a child growing up around the country.

In her new book, Inside Out, the now 56-year-old actress described her tumultuous childhood and horrifying upbringing — and on Monday morning, she took to GMA for a more in-depth sit down with journalist Diane Sawyer, as well.

In the more than eight-minute long interview, Moore revealed harrowing details about being raped at 15 years old by a man who had paid her alcoholic mother $500 for the opportunity. Ugh…

Apparently, after years of moving around the country, the actress was eventually forced by her mother Virginia King to go to bars so they would together get the attention of men. After one particular night out, Moore returned home to find an older man who had a key to their home. The man raped the 15-year-old, then asked, “How does it feel to be wh**ed out for $500?” Just grotesque…

When pressed on the issue by Sawyer during GMA‘s sit-down, and asked about whether she’d been directly pimped out by her mother in the “devastating betrayal,” Moore said (below):

“I think in my deep heart, no. I don’t think it was a straight forward transaction but she still did give him the access and put me in harm’s way.”

Uh, yeah… no kidding…

The G.I. Jane actress goes on to reveal a great deal about her life to Sawyer, from running away a year after that rape to make it big in Hollywood, to her time with Bruce Willis, to some of the previously unknown behind the scenes troubles with Ashton Kutcher, up to having it all fall apart again just a few short years ago. Moore also opens up about how she rebounded from that, too.

We’ve obviously been reporting a fair amount on the memoir itself, and Moore’s revealings therein, but it’s very interesting to watch the full interview (below) and see the Ghost actress come full circle:

Wow.

Truly, very powerful stuff.

We can’t fully express how glad we are to see the A-list star enjoying life right now — up in the treetops, as she puts it in the interview, with those seven lovely pups. She more than deserves it now, knowing what she came from, and how long it took her to get to this place of good health and well-being.

Such perseverance!
