Tiger King brought Carole Baskin fans and critics. Now she’s on Dancing with the Stars and her missing husband, Don Lewis’ family isn’t happy about it. Baskin responded to their new accusations against her and talked about denying certain cameo requests.

Carole Baskin is competing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Fans were shocked to find out Baskin would be one of the stars for season 29. This is after Tiger King was released showing her feud with Joseph Maldonado-Passage. She wasn’t happy about how she was portrayed or how Maldonado-Passage accusing her of being involved in her husband’s disappearance made it into the show.

Baskin revealed on Good Morning America she hopes doing the show will change people’s opinions of her. “I really hope so, and the biggest thing for me is the longer my partner and I can stay in the running and in the competition, it will keep the cats forefront in the viewer’s eye,” she said. “And to me, that was where Tiger King missed the ball. It really should’ve been focused on the animals and so I’m hoping Dancing With the Stars will do that.”

The show has made sure to give her cat-themed songs for her performances like “Eye of the Tiger” and “What’s New Pussycat?”

His family has sued her

Lewis’ family was quick to respond to Baskin doing Dancing with the Stars. They aired a commercial during the season premiere.

His daughters, Gale, Lynda, and Donna were in it along with his former assistant and their lawyer, John M. Phillips. “Don Lewis disappeared in 1997. His family deserves answers. They deserve justice. Do you know who did this or if Carole Baskin was involved?” Phillips asked in the advertisement.

The commercial also claims there is a $100,000 reward and a tip line for new information. They are now suing Baskin for defamation.

The family claims Baskin didn’t condemn or correct comments made about Lewis on Dancing with the Stars, according to Entertainment Tonight. They’re also claiming she’s been complicit in jokes made about him by the judges when they referenced TikTok videos inspired by Tiger King. The family pointed out Baskin said she would “really kill it next week” during her interview with Good Morning America.

She claims she denies certain cameo requests

Baskin was asked to comment on Lewis’ family suing her. She denies their claims.

“I haven’t made any kind of jokes about Don’s disappearance and it’s been a very personal thing to me for years,” she told Entertainment Tonight. She then talked about cameo requests she gets from people.

“On Cameo, people reach out to me all the time and they want me to say things about that and I just decline their request because I’m not going to make fun of something that was so painful for all of us,” she said.

It looks like things still aren’t settled between Lewis’ family and Baskin. Baskin’s participation in the show is now highlighting their problems with each other.
