Danni Menzies, 33, has spoken out on her terrifying health ordeal, after waking up one morning while filming for A Place In The Sun to discover a lump the “size of a golf ball” next to her nose. The property presenter immediately rushed to see local doctors to have it looked at and treated.

She revealed: “I had a real horrible thing recently where I woke up one morning and had a massive lump on my face, and I couldn’t open one of my eyes properly.

“I had a cyst or something on my face and it came out of nowhere. It was massive!

“It was like a golf ball next to my nose, and I went and got antibiotics. They then gave me the wrong antibiotics so that was fantastic,” she added.

After going through the traumatic experience, Danni found herself breaking down in tears, as she struggled to film.

She explained: “I started crying at one point saying, ‘I don’t want to do this’.

“So the show got back to the office and I got a message from the boss going, ‘Danni why have you got the back of your head to the camera?’

“I had been putting my hair over my face and turning my head away to try and hide myself. “

Fortunately, Danni eventually managed to get the right medication and the swelling went down.

She continued: “I managed to get to the doctors and get the right antibiotics, but it took about three weeks, it was awful.”

A Place In The Sun will celebrate its 21st birthday this month, with Danni joining the programme back in 2001 following a successful career in broadcasting.

Of the other presenters in the show, the Scottish born star says she is close with Scarlette Douglas.

Danni shared: “Scarlette and I are quite good friends. We hang out and catch up whenever we can.

“We’re similar sort of age, similar sort of life situation, so we’re good friends.

“[In regards to] the others, it’s tough, we don’t get to see them very much because you’re always going off in other directions.

“I bumped into Laura Hamilton for the first time on a plane and I’ve met Jasmine Harman at a few events. We all get on great. Everyone seems really nice,” she said.

Since filming resumed again on the new series of the programme, social distancing measures have been implemented to ensure cast and crew safety.

Danni explained: “We obviously have to keep our distance now and whenever we’re not filming we have to have our masks on, so it means keeping your makeup on is much more difficult.

“Everything takes a bit longer and is a bit trickier. But everyone is working really hard to make it happen, but it does make it difficult.

“I can’t go in as many rooms, or stay in them for as long. We have got all these protocols in place with Channel 4 that we have to follow.

“It definitely made it a lot stricter, but we’re still managing fine and I saw one of the videos after the edit the other day and actually you can’t really tell. We have done a really good job of you not being able to tell. So hopefully it will be the same bit of escapism when people watch it they won’t remember corona is happening.”
