2022 IS the year of a different Zane Tetevano – but one that will still not shirk a physical challenge.

The Leeds prop’s first season was hampered by suspensions and injuries, as well as settling into life in England.

Now off field worries are gone, fans may see a better version of the man who was brought over with a reputation for being an enforcer on it – starting with the Rhinos’ blockbuster season opener with Warrington.

“I’m in a better frame of mind and feel I can definitely be a better version of myself,” said Tetevano. “I’m looking forward to being the player I want to be and the one that I know I can be.

“Last year was frustrating with the bans I received, being away from my family for six months played a bit of a role too.

“There were a lot of issues. Visas were back and forth, it took a long time to get documents to Australia before they could come.

“Now everyone’s here and they’re settled. The kids are at school now and are enjoying being around other kids again.

“And so far, I’ve been a little more mindful when it comes to my aggression in defence but at the same time, I’m not going to stop. I’m still going to play hard.

“Now it’s about being on the field more than I am on the sidelines.”

Tetevano and partner Mikayla, whose roots are in Northern Ireland, have grown to quickly love life in England, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

And he feels they can connect with other people on these shores.

The 30-year-old, who could also play for Cook Islands at the World Cup, added: “It’s a lot more connected here and more free spirited to get to know other cultures.

“We always said that when we came over, we’d take in different things and different cultures, so we’ve taken it all on board.

“It’s a bit more open minded and we can enjoy it as it comes and I spoke about it with my partner, we thought it would be colder than it has been!”
