A STAG stands proud despite losing one of its antlers in a fight.
The animal — in a pose similar to that of the famous Monarch of the Glen painting by Sir Edwin Landseer — was spotted on a hilltop recovering after the rutting season battle.
Repair engineer Jason Fraser, 47, took the snap in Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands.
He said:“This is a young stag I found standing on an outcrop, on a low hill early morning. It was almost like he was surveying the valley before him.
“As you can see he’s been in bit of a battle and has a broken antler.
“He was very calm, and just stood there giving me a chance to get a few shots before leaving him to it.
“A little sad for him but hopefully he will come back with new set of antlers next year, ready for the next round.”
Jason added: “I do love all the wildlife we are lucky to have here in the Highlands.
“All my wildlife photographs are taken with the animals' welfare in mind as they come before the photos.”
